Relaunch

I’d like to introduce you to the latest version of antonpeck.com - a design I’ve been working on for awhile now.  I felt that it was a good time to implement it, due to the ever-so-slight adjustments I’ll be making to my online presence soon.

I’m not expecting to win any design awards, or get much attention for the UI, because I’ve intentionally scaled it back so much.  I don’t think you should be distracted by my website, when I’ve got content that I’d like to share with you (which, I suspect was a major issue with the last design).  But I do want it to function well for the purpose of effectively serving that content.

Considering a redesign should require a reason.

Many people redesign because they simply get sick of the old layout, others do it because they’re seeking to increase traffic to the site, and a few people change the look because it needs to realign to a new set of goals (which is where I’m at).

Although I’m currently a web designer by trade, and have made a successful career out of it for many years, there are slight shifts that you’re going to start noticing in how I sell myself online, starting with this website.  I consider myself a web illustrator, and am happy now to see a vast, open market of the web that needs such services.  For example, I’ve launched a new section called Blog Art, for the intent of letting anyone use my artwork on their own blog or website.

There’s also the personality to take into account.

Whatever impression you get from some of my work, I am not a very dark or evil person.  I don’t sleep in a coffin, or howl at the moon.  Okay, maybe I get a little moody sometimes, but so what… overall, I consider myself a pretty easy-going guy, with a professional attitude, and a fascination for sociology and creative puzzles.

The previous design wasn’t very good at projecting a positive and upbeat personality (what with the skulls and all).  Maybe I thought it could work, maybe I wasn’t too worried about it, I’m not sure.  But as it stands, I realize that how you sell yourself online is amplified greatly from the audience, since they have little else to get impressions from than what they see on your website.

So what does the future hold for antonpeck.com?

Where do I see this going in five or ten years?  Easy.  I want to crank up exposure to my work, and art in general, exponentially.  I want to use this site to help bring illustration to the web, and the design community, in unique ways.  Some of us are great writers, some of us are great designers, I’d like to try something a bit more unique.
