In social networks, forums, and instant messages on the internet, the avatar is a small icon where you can catch people’s attention with a little visual flair.  Not only do avatars make it easy for people to find the things your comments easier, they can add a little life to your profile.  They’re like a nice hair style or new pair of shoes, and people tend to really notice when you’ve updated your look.
