Will Draw For BEER
In case you haven't heard of it, there's a little geek event that happens once a year down in Austin, Texas. A little festival fondly known as "south-by", or SXSW. I like to call it the greatest gathering of designers and developers, ever! And coming this March, 2008 - I will be there once again rubbing elbows with some of the greatest minds in the industry.

However, this year is different. You see, I value the networking and training so much that I'm sending myself, on my own budget. I know a lot of people do this already, but this self-finance thing is all new to me (I'm used to having an employer cover the expenses). Because to me, attending south-by has value in just the inspirational rush alone. That feeling you get when you just want to create the hell out of anything you can get your hands on. Let alone mentioning the various other venues and mind-benefits that are available during the week.
Papa needs money!
My budget is in a serious pinch these days. I've had some pretty big expenses come up that needed to be taken care of as a higher priority, so I'm left asking for your help. And since I don't like asking for handouts, I'm willing to make a trade.
Let me ask you this: You do like my artwork, right? Have you considered what it might be like to own an original drawing of mine? A few lucky people already do. Heck, when I'm dead and gone they just might very well be worth a fortune (you never know)!
If you're planning on attending SXSW, this is your perfect chance to get an original piece of art created by me that you get to keep as long as you want!
How, you ask? Easy! Just a small donation will buy you an original piece of artwork from my hands to yours.
Okay! How much does it cost?
For about as much as it would cost you to buy me a few drinks and/or a nice dinner, you can get an original work of art that nobody else owns; that you can do whatever you want with. You get complete ownership of the drawing.
Here are the pricing options that are available:
Please note that these are all analog pieces. I won't be doing any digital images for this offer, so what you get is truly one-of-a-kind. How can you pass that up?
Can I choose what I get?
Kind of, yeah... if you have something specific in mind, you can ask for it - and the better you describe what you want, the closer I'll be able to recreate the idea (I have more fun with animals and robots, if you need a place to start). But ultimately, all sales are final. This is so that I can be fair to everyone and not spend more time on any one over the others.
What's the catch?
There's really not much to it, but I do reserve the right to turn down anyone who decides to take it upon themselves to act like an asshole. Plus, I also will be scanning (or photographing) the work and posting it in my gallery before turning it over to you. Other than that, that's it.
When do I collect the art?
All artwork will be handed over during the SXSW festival (specific location/date/time is yet TBD), so just meet me there somewhere, say hello, and we'll do the secret handshake thing.
Any questions can be directed to me via the contact form.
UPDATE
For those of you that are NOT attending SXSW next March, but would still like to participate in the action - just make sure I get your address, and throw in a little extra cash for shipping. I've got your backs, friends.
Also: Please feel free to steal the beer image used above for your own site, in the random event that you feel like linking inward to me and talking to others about my generosity. Because that would be awesome, you know.

Hope you raise the cash dude. It’s a long ride to that part of Texas otherwise…

Yo Matt, you’re not the first to ask me, so I updated the post to reflect the idea. I also put the beer image up for grabs too, for anyone who wants to use it.

This seems like a worthy cause to me. I’ll try to think of a cool idea for a drawing. Regardless, I’ll definitely get you a cold one in Austin if you’re there. It might be at one of the open bar parties, but I’ll get you one. :)

Looking forward to it Jason (which is also a good opportunity for me to get you to sign my copy of “Principles of Good Web Design” while we’re there)!

Sweet, author Jason Beaird just happens in along with artist A. Peck offering to work cheap, what more could an entrepreneur ask for. Hob-nobbing with the rich and famous, as it were… :)
