So what?

So what if I’m not a college-educated designer?
So what if I don’t have any books under my name?
So what if I don’t get mentioned anywhere?
So what if I don’t get asked to speak?
So what if I can’t come up with a UI that people can fall in love with?
So what if I’m overweight?
So what if people can’t relate to my artwork?
So what if people generally don’t like me?

Those things don’t make me stupid, lazy, any less human, or any less talented.  They certainly don’t discourage me from striving to continue (if anything it only strengthens my resolve).  The majority of people fear what they don’t understand.  Don’t you know that fear is the path to the dark side?  It’s the evil bitch of the web, ladies and gentlemen.  Yoda says so.

I create what I do because it makes me happy.  I’m not out to win awards, or acclaim, or praise, or link-love.  I desire only that I be allowed to continue to realize whatever crazy oddball ideas that I come up with, because things like peace, love, and good happiness stuff are more important to me than money or status.

This entry is to provide hope to those of you who feel the undercurrent of the web pulling you down.  That you’re not alone.  That being on the C through Z list is quite alright, because we are the majority, and in many cases, we are just as passionate about what we do, even if it’s not nearly as mainstream.

So if you don’t feel understood, or respected - have hope, lift your chin, ignore the mainstream and keep creating whatever it is that helps you live every day a little better.
